RocketBladez Tour Irons

Article #

The Distance Iron is now on Tour.

Tour irons -- muscleback blades and muscle-cavity blades – have for decades  remained very much the same in terms of construction and performance. RocketBladez Tour irons changes that with the Speed Pocket, which is the first innovation in tour irons that significantly affects the quality of the ball flight to promote a dramatic improvement in iron play.

The Speed Pocket works in conjunction with an improved Inverted Cone design to promote more ball speed, higher flight and significantly less speed loss on mis-hits low on the face. The result is keen distance-control and soft, quick-stopping landings that should help players consistently hit their approach shots closer to the hole.

RocketBladez Tour is the first distance-enhancing iron to be played on Tour, and has already been used to win three times, including by Dustin Johnson at the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

  • Maximum speed and flight enhancement technology in the 3- through 7-iron: The Speed Pocket promotes consistently high ball speed and distance.
  • Consistent distance with every iron made possible by careful management of the Speed Pocket, improved inverted Cone shape and high MOI.
  • 11grams of weight is strategically redistributed to lower and center the CG location, promoting a higher launch angle, higher peak trajectory and a steep, soft-landing, quick-stopping descent angle.
  • Fantastic feel promoted by a specially formulated polyurethane developed by 3M that fills the Speed Pocket and quiets vibration.
  • Shaft: KBS Tour - X, S, R
  • Grip: Mens RBladez Tour Grip - Tour Velvet 51.5g

7 iron from 160 and hit the toe and still landed on the green. I had a par and won by one. Long irons are easy to hit and I draw and fade at will.

I was excited to give these a try custom ordered to my specs with DSG300 and they arrived with D7 SW and felt like sledgehammers. They were returned and shipped back with the correct SW but them epoxy was all over the hosels. Even with the correct SW I had a hard time striking these purely, i couldn't feel the clubhead and they felt very hard on impact.

Whats strange is you see a group of people who had similar experiences to me and some that are saying the irons feel great. I'm wondering if there was a early production issue with some sets.

I went back to forged cavities and everything went back to normal for me.

I can't say enough about these irons. I ordered them (5-PW) through our local Taylormade Performance lab 1 degree flat and 1/4" short with the KBS Tour shafts. What a difference in ball flight I've seen. I've always hit the ball low, but now, the trajectory is awesome (comparing it to my previous flight, I'd almost have to say "towering").

The longer irons are so easy to hit, my only regret was that I didn't order a 4 iron, but that's about to change.

Pros: Nice looking at address gives you lots of confidence. Forgiving distance on mis-hits.

Cons: Consistently shorter across the set by about one iron than my previous irons. (r-11s)

I hit these at demo days and thought wow these are great. I ordered a set 4-PW. They arrived and I've played 5 rounds with them. I've lost 15-20 yards a club. Nothing like the ones I demoed. What an expensive lesson.

                    Best Uses

I was previously playing TI-100's (oversized titanium heads w/graphite shafts), which are extremely long but hard to control and difficult to hit cleanly off a tight lie. I decided to demo the Rocket Bladez irons (both regular and tour). The tour irons felt much more solid to me than the regular. I was shocked that I got comparable distance to my old TI-100s in the mid and long irons, even though the KBS tour steel shafts are much heavier! They are also much more consistent (good hits with my swing usually produce slight draws). The only con, is that I have close to a 20 yard distance gap between the 7 and 8 (which doesn't have the slot behind the face). I bought the 4-AW and ended up trading out the 4-iron for the tour RBZ 4 hybrid (which is easier to hit for me). I was surprised that Taylormade doesn't make a SW in the tour version. I ended up going with the ATV SW, which is available with the same shaft as the Rocketbladez tour. Overall, I'm very satisified with my purchase and highly recommend giving them a try!

I have played all types of irons from many different brands and have played blades for the last 4-5 years.. I was hesitant to buy a club like this because it didnt look like a players club..When I demoed them I was blown away how pure I was able to strike the ball with these irons. They are very easy to hit and feel great shot after shot. I really like them and would recommend them to any type of golfer..

I did not buy these, because I was buying into this whole slot thing but because I was in the market for a new set of irons that were best for me. I played a few rounds with different sets to see what I liked , I can tell you there is no other iron out there that feels like these do, very easy to shape shots and just a great over all feel and not bad looking either. I'm not gonna tell u I hit them some crazy distance beyond what I would typically would hit let's say a 7 iron , they may be a few yards longer but the thing that I found was just how they felt. Great irons here with or without the slot. I order mine custom to my swing and could not be happier.

Hope this helps some people on the fence about spending the money, this is coming from a guy that has all ways played ping , but taylormade rocketbladez is we're its at !!!!

A big thanks to Lee Carrington in Singapore for all her help over the years with my golf game & especially for recommending I demo these clubs.

The long irons provide the feel and performance of a true blade without the loss of distance (or direction) on off-center shots. The short irons are comparable to any blades out there, I move the ball around with ease. High, low, cut, draw, these things are very workable. The distance gaps between clubs are 12-14 yards. PERFECT.

The polymer that fills the slot eliminates any vibration (even on my worst efforts) without reducing feedback, or feel. Even in 40 degree weather, an amazing feat.

I highly recommend anyone like me who doesn't hit the dime every time to demo these clubs. You won't be disappointed, and more importantly, you'll see for yourself exactly what it is, that I'm having such a difficult time explaining...these things are good.

I played my set today and I have to tell you...these things are everything that Taylormade says they are! The distance was hard to gauge due to the wind but every shot had great distance control and they were long (5-7 yards). I bought them with KBS Tour X (softstepped once) and they felt great, even my miss hits where straight and with good distance. The ball felt great off the face and I was able to work them low and high!
