R1 Driver

Article #

One Driver that tunes to any loft, any look and any flight.

To get every potential yard out of your driver you need to achieve the precise combination of launch angle and spin-rate that promotes maximum carry and roll. Yet swing characteristics vary from player to player. R1 allows you to tune three key clubhead parameters so you can customize the club to your swing characteristics to create the launch conditions that promote maximum distance.

With R1 you can 1) Choose from five Face-Angle positions so you can achieve the look you want at address and to help you square the face to the ball at impact.2) Choose from 12 Loft-Sleeve settings between 8° and 12°. 3) Choose from two ways to position the movable Shot-Shape weights to promote a straight flight or a distance-enhancing draw.

We made a point to provide a wide range of loft options, because our analysis of thousands of clubfittings at our MAT-T (Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade) revealed that 80% of golfers are playing a driver with the wrong loft for their swing, at the expense of distance.

The white, glare-resistant crown features a unique black, orange and gray decal designed to make it easier to frame the ball opposite the center of the clubface, and easier to detect exactly how the clubhead is aimed to give you confidence that the face is aligned exactly the way you want it before you start your takeaway.

One driver model that can be tuned to fit Tour pros and amateurs alike.

  • 7 standard and 5 upright loft options between 8° and 12° (±2°) to obtain optimal launch angle.
  • 7 face angle options: N/square, open, medium-open, maximum-open, closed, medium-closed, maximum-closed.
  • Shot-shaping movable weights promote a neutral/straight flight or a distance-enhancing draw.
  • Thick-thin crown provides lower and more-forward CG location promoting high launch, fast ball speed and low spin.
  • Inverted Cone Technology milled into the inner side of the clubface expands the portion of the face that delivers high ball speed.
  • Black clubface, non-glare white crown and new gray/orange/black crown graphic together promote easy alignment.
  • Improved aerodynamics reduce drag over the head to promote faster clubhead speed.
  • Aldila RIP Phenom 55-gram shaft promotes faster clubhead speed while delivering greater feel than typical ultra-light shafts.

        Comments about TaylorMade R1 Driver:

I played the Nike VRS driver prior to purchasing my R1. Even though the VRS has a stiff shaft, I had to swing very slow to control it. I lift regularly at the gym so I don't have the typical golfers body. I can swing this club without worrying about slowing down and being inconsistent. Played my first round with it this weekend and averaged 300 yds! Barely got 265 with VRS! Now I can play aggressive without having long irons or hybrids into the green. Used the Taylormade website to tune it and they are dead on! Do yourself a favor and get this club or at least test it evenly with what you currently hit.

          Comments about TaylorMade R1 Driver:

I was very excited about this club after using a Callaway Razr Fit for the last year. I hit it well in the shop but once I got out to the range found it surprisingly hollow to hit. A good 20 metres shorter! Most disappointing was the black face was easily scratched and it looked 6 months old after that outing and one round. I asked Drummond Golf to return it to Taylormade as I thought it might have been a defective face and they said that is the way they all are, especially if you hit a dirty or scuffed ball (which it wasn't). I was not impressed at all. Going back to the Callaway and really cannot recommend this Driver.

            Comments about TaylorMade R1 Driver:

This driver is amazing, i orignally used the TM gen1 RBZ and got fitted for this. My launch with the RBZ was really high so when i got fitted for this driver they tuned me down to 8 degree and 3 degree closed face with a draw bias. My clubhead speed went from 96mph to 102+mph, only offline 6yds vs 22 yds with the RBZ, and ball speed of 159mph, my drives with range balls were 274yds, and those balls are reduced 10%-20% so when i got on the course i had several balls that were just under 300yds and a couple over. Huge distance gains on some holes i used to use a driver and a 7i with the R1 that same hole was a driver and GW

              Comments about TaylorMade R1 Driver:

I had an R11s Driver and i loved it but it did not offer me distance, so i switched to an RBZ, but now with the R1 i get the best of both worlds as well as gained yardage. It has helped me to take less club into the green and make dealing with windy courses in tournaments, just by changing loft on the hozel, much easier.

I was looking for an upgrade from my old driver and I did. Added extra yards to my drivers a more straight pure flight. It took me a while to adjust it in and when I found that right loft and face angle boy it sure can do some damage

                    Comments about TaylorMade R1 Driver:

I honestly don't know what to say other than... wow! I got a driver fitting done so I could adjust the loft & face angle to prime settings for me (10 degrees, 2 degrees closed) & never hit a ball with the R1 before I played my first round with it, other than the ones on the simulator. my first swing, I striped it 297 yards. every shot with the R1 was over 280 except for one - I was trying to swing as fast as I could, hit it off the toe, & it still went about 240. I was lucky to get 260-270 once or twice a round previously & I almost get that on a complete mis-hit? ridiculous. it almost feels like I'm cheating using the R1. I don't know what new technology TM is going to come out with in the future but this club is light years ahead of the competition. best golf purchase I've ever made!

It almost seems that when i hit this driver, the ball doesn't want to stop going. I have hit my longest drive in competition with this driver and it was like 329 yards, I'm 14 years old, the driver helps me so much.

I upgraded from an R7 Draw driver to the R1 and increased my distance by about a min. of 10 meters. The club has a more powerful feel than the R7. The setting adjustments are great but the advice from my Pro was not to keep tinkering with them according to how who just played on a particular round to correct any bad shots for the next round. Remember the club will only do what it is meant to do if you put a good swing on it.

Setting: 10 degrees, Draw Bias, 1 Degree closed.

                            Cheers Taylomade.
