 LEARN MORE ABOUT JETSPEED

First Driver with a Speed Pocket

The JetSpeed driver isn’t called JetSpeed for nothing. All elements of this club converge to promote extreme velocity. Swing speed. Clubhead speed. Ball speed. When a jet puts the pedal all the way to the metal it’s known as Full Military Power. That’s what JetSpeed delivers.

JetSpeed is the first-ever driver to incorporate TaylorMade’s renowned Speed Pocket technology. Why put the Speed Pocket in a driver, which is already at the COR limit of .822?  In this case the Speed Pocket is engineered to promote less spin. JetSpeed’s Speed Pocket also offers a huge performance advantage when impact is made low on the face, where most driver mis-hits occur. With most drivers, low impact generates too much spin, making the ball fly too high and land short. JetSpeed’s Speed Pocket is engineered to minimize that added spin dramatically, to give you more distance. You’ll get a noticeable boost in power when you catch it thin. And when you hit it center-face? Ba-boom.

Unlike the early Speed Pocket designs in RocketBallz and RBZ Stage 2 fairways and Rescue™ clubs, the JetSpeed driver’s Speed Pocket is filled with a polymer that keeps debris out and absorbs unwanted vibration while allowing the face to flex freely.

JetSpeed also incorporates a low-forward CG location, which has been proven in previous TaylorMade drivers to generate faster ball speed and lower spin compared to the low-back CG that has for years been accepted as the best location for promoting distance. Because low-forward also promotes a lower launch angle, most players will have to “loft up” to realize the full distance-enhancing benefits of JetSpeed. Three JetSpeed driver lofts  are offered – 9.5°, 10.5° and HL (13°). Its Loft-sleeve technology allows you to easily choose from one of 12 positions that give you a range of loft adjustment from ±1.5°.

Visually, the streamlined JetSpeed head features a matte black crown with a unique tonal decal that promotes accurate alignment. Imagine an F-16 that wanted to grow up to be a driver and you’ll get the picture.  The stock shaft is the Matrix Velox T 49 (49 grams). A TP version is also available, the difference being the Matrix Velox 60 shaft.

  • First Speed Pocket engineered for a driver promotes less spin on hits low on the face, resulting in less distance lost
  • Low-and-forward CG promotes faster ball speed and lower spin-rate for more distance
  • Long and light – 46” / 299 grams -- promotes faster swing speed for more distance
  • Shallow profile allows ultra-low CG to promote high launch for more distance
  • Streamlined head-shape promotes faster swing speed for more distance
  • Matrix Velox T 49 shaft promotes fast swing speed for more distance
  • Matte black crown reduces glare / tonal decal makes alignment easy

        Comments about TaylorMade JetSpeed Driver:

Wow! What a great club. I have only hit it on the range and on the simulator in the store so far (still too cold, courses aren't open in Wisconsin yet) but I can tell that this club will be in my bag for a number of years. It is extremely forgiving, most of my missed hits on the range would have still landed on the fairway or first cut on almost any course I usually play. The only drawbacks are 1) the sound when a ball is struck well is not that resonating "tink" like many are used to. To me it sounds more like I hit an aluminum can, very flat sounding; and 2) the stock shaft is long - 46 inches. This took a few balls to get used to. Both of these drawbacks are definitely not worthy of anyone passing this club by. Try it for yourself and you too will be a believer in Taylormade clubs.

                Comments about TaylorMade JetSpeed Driver:

I used to own a SLDR, actually switched over to this after a recent fitting. I was actually able to get better launch/spin with this head (paired with an ahina 60S shaft), while getting a slightly higher ball speed. I didn't argue with the results! I've also compared this against the new Big Bertha Alpha, and found it to be ~10 yards longer than the Alpha with the same shaft and length.

Just bought it today. Hit an easy drive without warm up. Did not hit a single bad drive. It does fly a bit high and after setting the loft to 9 degrees was better.
Look forward to enjoying this driver for a long time. The best driver I have owned.

                      Comments about TaylorMade JetSpeed Driver:

This driver is designed to do one thing, hit the ball off the planet. It's long, it's light, and that equals more distance. The shaft is longer than most, but it's easy to handle. I think the driver looks considerably better than the SLDR as well, reminding me of the older burner drivers. If you want more distance, try it.

                        Comments about TaylorMade JetSpeed Driver:

Age - 64. Golf tenure - 28 years. SS-84-88 mph. Purchased after launch monitor/fitting against my RBZ S2 Tour/ R flex. Was looking for more distance as I couldn't reach par 4 -480 yards in regulation which pressured iron play and putting. RBZ average drive was 215-230 (straight), in spite of very occasional 270-280. With taped-face on the monitor, JS was longer than my RBZ average. Was hitting sweetspot after 3 swings without any further deviation during the session. Fitter indicated difference in total club weight that JS was a better fit for this old body. Went directly to home course with no range time after purchase and had eight drives between 250-270 yds. RBZ was always accurate, but short and JS needs more familiarization to find fairway consistency but the extra yds set up second shots to green. JS was set at 10.5 loft with a penetrating high traj result, but the combo of hot-hot face and lively, light stock shaft was incredible change from the RBZ Tour torque. You can feel the shaft load up, know where the head is during the swing, and feel the delivery of force from the shaft and face launch at impact. As noted by my SS above, I have to be a medium/smooth hitter, and the performance of the JS puts me back on the blue/gold tees with those 30/40 year-old flat bellies. BTW, my fitter has a 115mph SS and he parks it over 300 yds. Hope this helps.

I really like this driver! Ball comes off face very quickly. It is easy to swing and has a nice sound with contact. I am 5ft 10in and I don't think the shaft feels too long. Of note: I started at 10.5 Regular flex and did not get much separation from my new Jet speed 3 Wood (fyi great club too). I increased to 12 degrees loft and gained about 20+ yards. Also, low on the face hits (that are a common miss for me) do travel longer.

Played several rounds and the ball does go loonnngg and can work ball!! Light weight with T49 shaft was no problem. Good even off the deck.
