The Distance Iron is Now on Tour

Tour irons -- muscleback blades and muscle-cavity blades – have for decades  remained very much the same in terms of construction and performance. RocketBladez Tour irons changes that with the Speed Pocket, which is the first innovation in tour irons that significantly affects the quality of the ball flight to promote a dramatic improvement in iron play.

The Speed Pocket works in conjunction with an improved Inverted Cone design to promote more ball speed, higher flight and significantly less speed loss on mis-hits low on the face. The result is keen distance-control and soft, quick-stopping landings that should help players consistently hit their approach shots closer to the hole.

RocketBladez Tour is the first distance-enhancing iron to be played on Tour, and has already been used to win three times, including by Dustin Johnson at the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

  • Maximum speed and flight enhancement technology in the 3- through 7-iron: The Speed Pocket promotes consistently high ball speed and distance.
  • Consistent distance with every iron made possible by careful management of the Speed Pocket, improved inverted Cone shape and high MOI.
  • 11grams of weight is strategically redistributed to lower and center the CG location, promoting a higher launch angle, higher peak trajectory and a steep, soft-landing, quick-stopping descent angle.
  • Fantastic feel promoted by a specially formulated polyurethane developed by 3M that fills the Speed Pocket and quiets vibration.
  • Shaft: KBS Tour - X, S, R
  • Grip: Mens RBladez Tour Grip - Tour Velvet 51.5g
  • Shaft size .355 tip

Comments about TaylorMade RocketBladez Tour Irons:

Just made the switch to these irons a week ago. I moved to these clubs from the Mizuno jPX 800 pro. I find the contact with these irons incredible. Shots explode off of the club face with ripping trajectories. Although the 8-PW don't have speed pockets, they are just as solid as those irons with the speed pocket. I can work the ball both ways without much fuss, but straight shots are effortless. Clubs are solid and about 1/2 a club longer throughout the set.

Comments about TaylorMade RocketBladez Tour Irons:

These irons look incredible in the bag as well as at set up--thin topline, no bulk and clean lines instill confidence and make the sweet spot relatively easy to find. Hit it close to the center and forged won't feel any better than this. The hype about the ability to launch high shots and work the ball is true and turf interaction is much improved over the thicker headed game improvement irons. The talk about added distance is not. Shots fly high, land soft and are on target, but I find myself a full club short on distance throughout the set.

Comments about TaylorMade RocketBladez Tour Irons:

I just bought a set and had several sessions at the range. I've upgraded from my R9 irons. Compared to the R9's, the Rocketbladez tours are more compact in nearly every dimension, but have roughly the same weight (using KBS tour vers KBS 90). The tours have higher lofts, which definitely shows on both mishits and flushed shots--the tours definitely have a higher trajectory. It seems that the tours also tend to promote a draw on the shot, which helps gain distance. However, I find that the R9's are longer than the Tours because of the lower flight of the ball, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. With the higher flight, the Tours should translate to a softer landing and therefore more control in hitting greens.

Comments about TaylorMade RocketBladez Tour Irons:

Just adding an addistional comment on these irons. In Aug I had ordered these w/KBS stiff hard stepped once. I was kind when I said a slightly higher ball flight. Up Up and away!Since then I went for a professional fitting and tried DG Tour's, KBS C-Taper, Modus 120's and Project X in this head. My best #'s were with the PX 6.0. Now my flights significantly lower. These are such nice looking and feeling irons, I felt reshafting was my best option rather than getting something different.

I have played with many top rated clubs over the years. Callaway X-Forged and Mizuno MP-59 most recently. The TM RocketBladez Tour look better at address and inspire tons of confidence. Went to the practice range today at my club after incredibly fast delivery from TaylorMade..best practice session ever! These irons are incredibly long and even more forgiving than game improvement clubs I have played in the past. TM did a great job on these - perfect combination of looks, confidence, and playability. Just incredible. Cant wait to play a full round with them.

Comments about TaylorMade RocketBladez Tour Irons:

I lost 15 -20 yards per iron over my old burner irons. I went in and got fitted for these irons and the fitter kept going to a stiffer and stiffer shaft. He said it was needed to cut down on the back spin on my irons, I don't have the swing speed project x 6.5 shafts. Now I look at taking two shots to get on any par three over 200 yards, used to hit my 4 iron 210 yards, now 190-195. The clubs feel great and swing great but the loss of distance is disappointing. If you get fitted, know your swing and your distance, do not rely on some machine. I took both my nine iron and 8 iron of my old burner set to the course, went at night when no one was there, hit my old 8 iron 165 yards, new one 150, same balls consistent swing. I will end up spending an additional hundred dollars or more to get them reshafted next year, that is in addition to the $200.00 extra for the project x shafts.

Recently I switched from Mizuno MP-53's to the T.M. R Bladez Tour irons (4-AW). These are very forging for a players iron and for a cast club have a suprisingly soft feel very close to a forged iron. I went with the KBS Tour stiff, hard stepped once. The flight is still slightly higer than I like, but accuracy has been upgraded. I wanted the KBS C-Taper R+ flex, however T.M. only offers S and X flex's in that shaft. Overall I'm very happy with the switch!
